week 7

ANIMATION
This week and part of last week I was put in a group of 3 and we made an animation on birds from the theme bird-scissor-ladder. A development from the previous attempt. I really enjoyed making this.
We made sounds on a keyboard and also I went outside and recorded birds and edited all the sounds and images to correlate well together. We also used a soundtrack from Chicago. In our 8 hour time limit there are a few music continuity problems, we didn't have time to do deal with but I think we did the best we could do!
ART LECTURE
I made so many notes. Ridiculous. But equally informative. I learnt most from Angie as she really put each artist and works into perspective. Although I am not really interested in text &image, I loved all the pieces she showed us. Below, is work I was inspired by from the talk.

LAWRENCE WEINER
I love how this dictates the way you read it.
JOHN BALDESSARI
'AND' redefines the potential for the paperclip.
RICHARD LONG
A Line Made By Walking, 1945
JOSEPH KOSUTH
Different perceptions of a chair, in each gallery.
JENNY HOLZER
Use what is dominant in a culture to change it quickly.
JOSEPH GRIGLEY
We have all these conversations but we don’t know where we store them.
DAVID SHRIGLEY
HAHA makes me smile!
MARTIN CREED
Culture is culture.
After this talk we had another talk by Adele on Painting. It was interesting her telling us about how many artists coming out of Art School in the 70's thought that painting was dieing out so moved to film for a short period then in 90's referred back to painting and making it a successful comeback by introducing new techniques. Prime example is Jackson Pollock and Chris Ofili.

week 6 and a half

MORE BLIND DRAWINGS- Piano performances in class and then went to a Theorbo lunchtime concert and ended up with this image above.
This afternoon I decided to use open air drying clay (a gift) and I tried to do replicas of my Inuit art sculptures I have and then took photos of them on my mirror. The intention was to look 'icy' however I really like the unintentional reflection! First attempt at ceramics!
I placed the Eskimo doll on the mirror as I was reflected in it with camera behind the doll, I scaled/positioned my self accordingly.make sense?!
Today in the Art lecture the tutors did lectures on a theme that interested them. Mandy focused on Abstraction and linking it with Figuration and found out a lot about Agnes Martin I was also interested in Prunella Clough. Interesting fact I found out in this talk is that Robyn Denny made and designed the ceramics for Oxford Circus Tube.

Petra then talked about a movement I had never even heard of Arte Povera. She mentioned Piero Manzoni, Mario Merz, video clip of Jannis Kounellis and my favourite Michelangelo Pistoletto. These artists were working in the same time period as Andy Warhol and printing his iconic soup cans, but in Europe and more personally controversial. She then mentioned that they linked and inspired famous YBA's like Tracy Emin and Cornelia Parker today. I felt I learned a lot which I guess is a good thing! I then got my assessment mark which I was very very hAppy with :)

Last week I also got my b&w film developed, the ones below worked out the best.

half of week 5

Tuesday 8th I had my art assessment which was really positive and encouraging, also got my presentation mark back which I was pleased with. In film this week we started animation with the theme
bird-scissors-ladder.
So like the title the animation is also very random...gonna edit it next week :) Mood: Ridiculously happy, have a nice day!!!

week 4

We reflected on master paintings such as Gustave Courbet, Velazquez, Picasso and drawing their paintings in our own personal style. We used an old school projector to project them (in black and white). This was difficult when the sun started coming through the windows ...it made us really look carefully and made all our work more interesting! On this workshop set, I focused on the use of line and texture which I found harder especially on the large scale black one done on the floor, you can tell I spent a lot more time on the painting on the bottom rather than the top one (done in half the time). None of them are yet complete :( Something to do this weekend before my critic next week!!
I am now known as the one who spills yellow ink! It went EVERYWHERE! I tried to use it to my advantage by creating patters with the tissue on the dress while drying it up!
Although this week has been ridiculously busy I still managed to squeeze in a couple of blind drawings at a half hour lunch time concert, which I thought would be relaxing, but as you can see by my drawing it was LOUD and JAZZY! I liked the release of drawing these, making me feel more positive. It's not my best by far although I love the shape of the bass player (and shadow)on the left, would make a cool sculpture and I like the fact the door in background looks like a confused face!
Film essay title: Ways in which Danny Boyle portrays the value of money in Millions (2004) and Slum Dog Millionaire (2008).

FILM ESSAY AND PULP FICTION COMPLETE, I FEEL LIKE SUPERMAN

In Photoshop we used the tool gradient (left) on the two technicians Steve and John. We then had to make a centaur - I did it slightly different! It was done quickly so should have merged and erased the horses head better so you can't see the line between them. After class I edited some photos applying the use of gradient and rendering.
